I mentioned before that Step-mom was visiting this week.
Well, one of the reasons she stopped on this trip North (she usually goes up the coast) was that she’s been cleaning out my father’s papers (he was a writer) and pictures (we had our own darkroom growing up and Dad took a LOT of pictures) and she wanted to deposit them all with me.
YEAH!
It came down to her not feeling like she should not be the one to sort through the entire mess and figure out what should be kept and what could be tossed. So now I have it.
17 boxes of assorted size and a small suitcase.
I can’t image how long it’s going to take me to sort through them all, and then the true fun starts.
Where am I going to put it???
For now, it’s sitting in the middle of my house, so I can’t just ignore it.

For things that you’d like to keep, but not necessarily in paper form, consider scanning into your computer and saving to a disk. It’ll take up less space. What a treat, though, to have these boxes!
Build a website to showcase it.
Also, I would so love to help sort through it all.
Since he was a published author you might want to see if there is a particular library or archive that might want it. It’s not a given, particularly since it mostly costs them to take stuff like this (it will need to be catalogued and possibly digitized even if you’ve sorted it first) but it might be worth it to the right library.
I won’t be the one sorting through them but my father has collected up a mountain of pictures. I remember one trip my parents took that he came home with something in the range of 4000 prints.
Ok, other people gave the great advice already, so I’ll just say good luck with the sorting and hope it brings back lots of fond memories!
